Chapter 13
âWhen my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.â
-PSALM 27:10

Pulling her veil even tighter around her face, Rahab quickly glanced over her shoulder to make sure no one had recognized her. Her golden eyes would have given her away in a moment. She knocked on the large wooden door quietly. She heard no movement. Taking a deep breath, Rahab knocked again louder to try to drown out the sound of her pounding heart.
The door flung open and a large man stood staring down at her.
âFather,â she whispered and pushed herself in.
âRahab?â The man spun around on his heels. âIs that you? What are you doing here? You know you are not welcome in this house.â
Loosening her veil just enough to breathe easier, she inhaled. âI know, Father. But you are in danger and you need to come with me.â
A loud laugh echoed off the stone dwelling. âGet out of here, you filthy woman.â He pushed past her and headed for the next room.
âFather, please. I need to get you all to my home...â Rahab pleaded as she reached out for his arm.
âHome?â The massive frame of her father spun around to face her.
She saw the flames of anger creeping up in his dark eyes.
âYou call that place of debauchery a home?â He grabbed her arm and began to pull her toward the door. âWell, you can just go right back to your home,â he spat the word.
âPlease, just listen to me for one moment. You are all in terrible danger!â She fought hard against him, but not enough to overcome his pull.
âWhat is going on in here?â a female voice yelled, as a hunched figure entered the room. âGet your hands off of her.â
âStay out of this. She does not belong here.â Tzuri waved off his wife.
âPlease, Mother. You're all in extreme danger.â Rahab called over her father's arm. âCome with me and I will protect you.â
âWhat are you talking about, child. What danger?â Liat crossed the room and stood beside her daughter.
âThe city will be invaded soon and everyone will be destroyed,â Rahab explained quickly, hoping to win over at least her mother.
âHa, invaded? No one can invade Jericho.â Her father chuckled as he tightened his grip on Rahab's bicep.
âI have heard it with my own ears.â She fought the tears of sorrow and pain. âThere will be an invasion and lives will be taken.â Rahab reached for her mother's hand and begged, âPlease come with me. You will be safe in my home.â
Tzuri raised Rahab's arm and began to lift her off the ground as he glared down into her shielded eyes. âWhat makes you think your house will be any safer than here in our own home?â
Rahab took a deep breath to steady herself. âIâve made arrangements.â
âI'm sure you have,â Tzuri laughed, dropping her just low enough to show her he was still in control.
Rahab turned her face back to her mother. âMother. I have had spies come to me and tell me what will be of Jericho.
